Cheering For Dead Boat People

Less than a week after innocent people lost their lives after fleeing inhumanity and persecution in their home countries, ‘true blue’ Aussies are laughing about their deaths. Never mind the fact how many children were left as orphans after this tragedy, no. Never mind how many of these men and women had jobs and education back in their home country, no. Never mind that these people don’t actually have the opportunity to stroll up to an airport with their passport and ask to leave the country that persecutes them, no.

These people were believed to be from Iraq. A place apparently improved by our armed forces. A suicide bomber killed over 20 civilians the day after they left their shores. This is an almost daily occurrence.

If this shit was happening in Australia, you can be sure that brave, family-minded Australians would be thinking of what was best for their families and looking for any possible way of leaving and heading to a safer country. But all we can do is sit back and laugh at these people who have never known what it’s like to be free, to eat at nice restaurants, to walk their dog in the park, to take their kids to the beach and to go on a roller coaster. These people have never had rights and their opportunities have been limited. They live every day in fear, assuming it will be their last. These people have never had religious freedom, nor have they had social security.

But sure, let’s laugh at them when they search for a better life. Let’s criticise their decision to risk their lives and the lives of their wives and children because it is a lesser risk than staying in their home country. Let’s call them terrorists even though terrorists generally have money and contacts and arrive in planes. Let’s talk about shooting them as they arrive and then let’s go to church and talk about living a life in the so called image of God. Let’s sit on Facebook and talk about things we have absolutely no clue about and then brag about ‘standing up for our country’.

  1. Kevin Downey Leeanne Styles – please don’t ban the burqa – we need it to cover your inbred racist head! When will people realise that these people are not illegal, uneducated racist bogans!!

  2. One race upon one place, love your country yes, but love your Earth more … Otherwise your patriotism soon becomes your ignorance, creating divisions of one race upon one place, thus allowing their deceitful systematic creation of wars, thus creating the boats to your shores … Yes you ignorant fools, your stupid narrow minds not allowing you to see the real truth from your controlled lives, is what creates this … Controlled patriotism inflicted by corrupt corporate controlled politics and capitalism is your own nemesis. You vote for lies and deceit, you allow wars, you allow wars, you get boats … You did this!

  3. I seriously doubt that anyone is laughing at these poor people and further doubt that their are calls to shoot them. I can well understand their desire to create a better life for themselves and their families but you also have to consider the process they have gone through to come here. How many safe havens have they passed through to get to Indonesia and on to these boats? The problems are with this whole process are international. The UNHCR, the responsible body for refugee movements, are seriously failing in their responsibilities. Safe Haven countries should be adequately resourced to provide facilities for people fleeing from oppression and dire circumstances like war zones. Resettlement camps need to be sufficiently equipped to preserve human dignity and adequately care for these unfortunate people. ALL countries who are willing to accept refugees need to step up to the plate and provide processing facilities in these safe haven camps in order to facilitate processing and resettlement. Every country that is signatory to the UNHCR agreements need to step up to the plate and adequately finance and resource settlement processes so that it is not necessary for people to undertake the risky ocean journey on boats that are not safe to and should never have been allowed to depart port. Your post is hysteria bordering on the the extreme. In making these over the top accusations and emotive statements you are not helping the cause one iota, you are actually hindering it. No one is laughing at the loss of life, except maybe the people smugglers who are the only ones benefiting from this tragic trade in human misery.

    • I agreed with the majority of your post until you said this:

“Your post is hysteria bordering on the the extreme. In making these over the top accusations and emotive statements you are not helping the cause one iota, you are actually hindering it. No one is laughing at the loss of life, except maybe the people smugglers who are the only ones benefiting from this tragic trade in human misery.”

You’re wrong. There are plenty of people rejoicing this tragedy. Thankfully they remain a minority. By highlighting their isolated and inhumane views, it shows just how shallow those views and the people who hold them are. It doesn’t whip up hysteria at all. As for the people smugglers – they do not benefit from a boat smashed upon the shore. And while we continue to demonise the people smugglers themselves, at some point we need to acknowledge that these people are helping people flee their countries – something that is somewhat noble. Germans who hid fleeing Jews in their houses were people smugglers to a degree – the only difference was that they weren’t financially profiting from human misery and that is the negative aspect attributed to modern people smugglers.

      • I absolutely agree with you theantibogan. You’re right, people smugglers are often the only people who will help save these people’s lives.
Why is it any difference that they receive money for what they do?
Most charity organisations that we know of ‘Save the Children’, ‘Childfund’ etc etc, make money, pay their employees and pay their CEOs a huge amount of money. It doesn’t necessarily negate what they do to provide people with resources and opportunity.

      • actuall peole smugglers are not noble – you have no idea how much tehse guys charge. its a bsunes for them. alot of the time if a country REFUSES to allow a boat in the people smugglers sink the boat.
        they are there for money

    • Nice try bozo – maybe you should try and think outside the box.

Set up a safe, secure and patrolled came in Uganda and see how long it takes for the UN to adeqauate guarantee the support of the nation state that their camp will be free from attack, and how long it takes for their subsiduaray aid agencies to secure medical aid and equipment from beligerant groups which control vast swathes of the territory and their passage to the camp their government has (maybe) relucantantly agreed to.

And then see how long this new, secure, utopian camp lasts before maurauding soldiers invade, and kill those of a marginalised ethnic clan (which will be easy to find, because ethic clusters are typically kept together in camps). While they’re looting the camp, they’ll round up every child aged between 4 and 16 to join their army to fight for something, anything .. they might call it ‘freedom’. Then see how long it takes before your refugees get typhoid or cholerea (the ones who are still alive that it), but they can’t get adequate treatment because there isn’t the equipment. The Government, the clans, the proxy armies see the camp and UN and the UNHCR as a blight, a road block to their so called independence ..

Now, what was it you were saying about all countries .. working together, for peace, love and blah blah.

Oh, Uganda is a signatory by the way, and since when does being a signatory actually mean you give a toss?

      • haha exactly. every country has broken international laws including human rights laws not to mention war laws. and we aways end up woht victor’s jsutice – the winner of the war is never persecuted for war crimes no matter how bad they were. we need an unbiased international orginastiaon that makes it very clear that you sign a treaty you keep to its terms. full stop.

    • “I seriously doubt that anyone is laughing at these poor people and further doubt that their are calls to shoot them.”

Did you read the actual post? And right on cue another racist bogan pipes up further down this page.

“Shoulda torpedoed the first boat that came in this direction years ago, Blewem out the water and solved the problem, no more woulda followed…….”

Whether you are the old Scott or not, it’s time to get your head out of the stand and stop justifying / apologising for racist bogans.

  4. This one is linked to the above one, I suggest the administator also learns English…..

    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dear-asylum-seekers-Better-luck-next-time/164340963609528?ref=ts#!/pages/Ban-asylum-seekers-from-Australia-we-dont-want-you-here/173423176024719

All asylum seekers are, are a drain on Australia, our working man does it so hard but yet those idiots get a free car, a house, citisen ship and a liscene when they don’t know road rule let alone English!

I say sink them or send them back!!

PS I suggest we all report these pages and any others we find to get them off Facebok

  5. Did you see the quote on Kevin Downey Leeanne Styles’ FB page?

Here it is: “Dont do to others what you wouldn’t want done to you!”

So I guess that means, when they die or their family members die, we can laugh our arses off at them too. Braindead fuckers!

  6. Read through Kevin Downey Leeanne Styles’ page. Grammar, spelling and basic intelligence all seem to have taken a very long holiday. Can we ship them overseas? National average IQ would have to jump by about half a dozen points, with their net negative effect removed…

    • Well, he does have listed under books: ‘unless the TV guide counts’

Oh, and his hobbies include getting drunk .. possibly while asking one of his 11 children to ‘fetch pa another tinny from the frige Koree’.

What a bunch of fucking losers.

  7. That dip-shit is costing me more money in tax dollars, due to his fleeting between jobs, failure to get an education that will see him employed, drinking habit that will leave him choking the public hospital system, 5 or so kids who will cost about $20,000 in BB alone.. wow, all that money for being a dead weight .. and his moaning about boat people who come here with nothing.

  8. Shoulda torpedoed the first boat that came in this direction years ago, Blewem out the water and solved the problem, no more woulda followed…….The resources that these ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS occupy cost AUSTRALIAN tax payers millions of dollars, even to the extent where emergency services will be called from attending to injured AUSTRALIANS, to yet again save boat people, stop riots or handle suicide threats coz shits not going their wa. YOU got YOUR oppinion well I got MINE too…..FUCK EM ALL LEAVE MY COUNTRY ALONE U BASTARDS FUK OFF!!!!!

    • Hi Dwayne, thanks for dropping by. If you had half a brain, you would realise that asylum seekers and refugees are not illegal at all. You should focus your hatred towards those that come by plane and overstay their Visas. There are around 80,000 in our country at this very moment.

P.S – thanks for posting here. I’m sure your employer Repco wouldn’t enjoy knowing that one of its employees gets around posting such public hatred.
P.P.S – you live in Whyalla – a shit sticks suburb in the middle of nowhere. You will never even meet an asylum seeker and if you have it’s most likely because they’ve been employed and become a part of our society.

      Fuck off bogan.

      • While I agree that the animosity, hatred and ignorance shown towards refugees is repugnant, there’s no need to insult those of us who come from places “in the middle of nowhere” like Whyalla, as we don’t all share the same sentiments or values.
Is also worth noting that there is a refugee detention centre (Baxter) in Port Augusta, approx 60km from Whyalla. Although yes, unless he’s meeting them in society, it doesn’t sound like Boofy will be visiting there soon.

    • mmm, now which ‘first boat’ are you referring to?

Could it be; the Cook’s Endeavour?, One of the 11 ships of the First Fleet, or could it be the boats which brought refugees from Central Europe at the end of WWII.. just interested .

Millions of dollars hey? Would that be the same millions of dollars that the government spends in cleaning up cities every Saturday and Sunday morning, because boozed up bogans go on a alcohol rampage? is it the same millions, that they give in hand outs every year to people who have babies but who make no contribution to society? is it the same millions they spend in subsidising the unemployment status of countless (around 900,000) unemployed people every year?

Oh and Emergency Services risking their lives – this is true, but that is what they are paid to do believe it or not. Do you hear them complaining that they had to go and put out fires started by some dip-ship low life? Or that they had to rescue people who went bushwalking without a map? Or because they had to rescue 70 odd souls because they wanted a better life? Do you hear them complaining that they are doing their job?!

I beg your pardon, but ‘shits not going their wa(sic)’. Firstly, congratualtions that you managed to use the correct version of ‘their/there/they’re’ in this sentence.. this must have exhausted a considerable portion of your brain power to the extent that everything else you wrote is an embarassment to you and your brood.

When things don’t go your way .. you lose a bet on the Melbourne Cup, your beer is flat, your girlfriend calls you a loser, you lost your job? Well indeed thus are the ‘not going you way’ circumstances, but to think your lot is the same as millions elsewhere living in fear is a pretty long bow to draw.

  9. you know you’re dealing with bogans when they merge facebook profiles becuase they’re what you call co-dependent .. spew spew spew ..

  10. That kind of comment is typical of low social economic areas and the individuals whom live within its confines.
Personally I believe that the majority of people are not capable of coming up with these racist/un Australian slurs and is comments/behaviour picked up from ( learnt behaviour ) other senior members of communities.
I have personally been involved in numerous communities where this has been and possibly could still be an issue.
i would put the onis on the Federal Govenrment/Police to educate individuals groups on what is current legislation and do it quickly. Australia at grass roots level needs some guidance in the way of (reiterating) eduacting individuals/groups of international reform.

    • An informed population is harder to frighten. And we all know that fear buys votes. People who don’t know the facts about asylum seekers and refugees are more likely to be easy votes for the party that takes the hardline approach as opposed to the humane approach.

    • dude cry me a river! I’m not a ‘senior member’ of the community.. I’m someone who doesn’t think boat people deserve to die and I don’t have a merged facebook profile with my partner .. because that’s what losers do!

  11. I see a lot of rhetoric and emotion driven comments on this thread. Some of the pro-boats people are just as rabid as the bogans who are promoting the “stop the boats” line. As a question to the antibogan – What do you suggest as a solution to the boats, do you propose just throwing the doors open and shouting come one come all or do you have some practical suggestions to address these matters?

    • “I wish there were an orderly queue that people could join. I wish people could be promptly processed in many locations across Asia and be transported safely to their final destination.

I wish there were camps where medicine and food abound, where women are not at risk. I wish that asylum seekers and refugees didn’t have to live in slums and makeshift accommodation for years on end – not even near a ‘camp’ of any description.

The “boat people” everyone is talking about are individuals who have often lived away from their homeland for years, sometimes decades. They have not been able to find safety and security and are desperate for some kind of lasting solution for themselves and their family.

Others have fled imminent danger and simply left their country when they could. Primarily, we are talking about people who have never even seen the ocean until they reach a South-East Asian port.

For these there is simply no “queue” to join. The countries they pass through are not signatories to the Refugee Convention and do not provide them with protection.

In countries such as Pakistan, Malaysia, and Indonesia all these people can do is live as ‘illegal migrants’, hope to find work and unable to gain any formal education for their children.

Hardly a sustainable life that could provide any sense of hope or stability. Even those who have been recognised by the UNHCR as refugees are often kept in limbo for years in countries such as Indonesia without access to healthcare, education or work rights – there is simply nowhere for these people to go.

Stopping the boats is in essence it is a great idea; I don’t want to see people put their lives at risk on a boat journey to a country who already knows they are there desperately waiting.

But ‘stopping the boats’ is not the central issue. We need to focus on why people flee in the first place and how they are treated once they do.

Aside from putting an end to persecution, we can only stem the flow of boats with regional cooperation focused on actually protecting refugees and asylum seekers.

Our neighbours in South-East Asia and Asia need to sign the Refugee Convention and adhere to its requirements. Australia needs to establish and support regional processing and protection – the burden should not be placed on other countries, it should be shared and the boat journey taken out of the equation.

Human nature is such that we generally don’t want to leave our homeland for an unknown destination, travelling in sub-standard and frightening conditions. Australia needs to play its part and remove this boat ‘option’ by providing humane, prompt solutions to processing and settlement of asylum seekers and refugees whom we know are in the region.

Dividing refugees into ‘good’, ‘bad’, ‘illegal’, ‘queue jumpers’, ‘those with money’ and the many other mistruths flying about at present is not helpful to any kind of rational and sensible discussion of the issues.

It is perfectly legal to arrive by boat and without documentation – the United Nations and countries such as Australia who signed the Refugee Convention acknowledged back in 1951 that such circumstances may occur for people fleeing. It is hardly possible to go to an airport, present a passport and ask for exit from a country that is persecuting you.

We know these people are desperate, we know the countries they are passing through, we know the lengths they will go to and now we are reminded of the fatal cost this can have.”

    • On an unrelated matter, Where is ‘The old’ Scott? Scot Pengelly from Melton?
Or are you the same person posting under the ‘New’ tag?

    • The new Scott says: December 20, 2010 at 2:43 am
“… What do you suggest as a solution to the boats, do you propose just throwing the doors open and shouting come one come all …”

Throwing the doors open ? On the coastline ? Hmmmm. Mixing your metaphors can be dangerous, new Scott.

Anyway, why not ? Anyone who is sufficiently motivated/scared to entirely give up their old life and all their possessions and money, get in the classic leaky boat and risk their and their loved ones’ lives to have a chance of landing in Aus, when they could well get killed along the way, as those poor people did on Xmas Island, is just the sort of people we want and need here. They have an excellent chance of becoming good and productive citizens.

And, to limit their numbers, we have a terrific Border Protection System. It’s called the ocean. This land is girt by sea, people. We don’t share land borders like most other nations, so there is not the least chance of being “swamped” or any other hyperbolic metaphor. A few thousand refos a year make no negative impact on us. None at all.

Far from the drain on the taxpayer “courtesy” (and I use the word advisadly) of a loud minority of racist fuckwits. Do you cretins realize just how much money the government wastes on trying to keep this handful of harmless and helpless people out ? The Howard government wasted half a BILLION dollars on the detention centre on Xmas Island. Just think of how much good that could have done to the hospital system. All those bucks just to keep a trickle of harmless refos offshore for an indefinite period.

And over the past 20 years or so, it was recently reported that 20 BILLION dollars was spent on measures to keep these poor buggers from landing in the Western Suburbs of Sydney and other such underprivileged areas.

As opposed to this needless waste, we could let them land, do standard security and health checks, then release them into the community on a parole-style model while their claims are processed. They would be under far more effective surveillance that the much larger numbers of visa overstayers, who are the REAL illegals. Oh, but we don’t want to complains about overstayers, now do we ? They fly in and we’ve checked their passports first. We can feel much safer with them, right ?

  12. Hahaha, nice tribal tatt Kevin Downey! The quintessential mark of the bogan!

@Antibogan – My friend introduced me to your Facebook page, I have really been enjoying reading it but its so depressing that people still hold these kind of prejudices..

Racist sons of bitches, that’s all it really comes down to

  13. People who arrive in Australia illegally either come on their own accord without any involvement by organisations, or their travel is organised by criminal networks and/or people smuggling syndicates.

People smuggling involves the illegal movement of people across international borders, usually for payment. This implies a voluntary agreement between the organiser and the person being smuggled.

  14. International law recognises that people at risk of persecution have a right to flee their country and seek refuge elsewhere, but does not give them a right to enter a country of which they are not a national. Nor do refugees have a right to choose their preferred country of protection.

  15. THE UN refugee agency says Australia’s immigration detention system is being clogged by growing numbers of rejected asylum seekers who should be sent home.
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees regional representative Richard Towle says large numbers of people now coming through the asylum system in Australia are not refugees and “the challenge is how to find fair and humane and effective ways of allowing them to leave this country to go home”, Fairfax newspapers report.

    • The question isn’t about how many asylum seekers detention centres can hold. It is about whether asylum seekers should be placed into detention centres. Well over 90% of asylum seekers are deemed legitimate refugees after processing.

  16. Detention centres used to house these large amounts of asylum seekers are not about ‘Australia’s security’. We’re under no threat.

Come on, this is a prison-industrial-complex. Many people seek to gain economically by running these centres. It’s about moving tax payers money into the pockets of corporations and companies. It creates jobs, in return income tax, a ‘domino effect’ of ‘economic prosperity’. It funds itself really.

On another note, the problem with the majority of these racists is the idea that ‘Australian nationalism’ equals ‘white’, ‘aussie aussie aussie, oi oi oi’, ‘shrimp on the barbie’ etc etc. That this country belongs to ‘white aussies’ and that ‘we’re being charitable to allow these non-whites to come here’ bunch of crock.
Once we see that (and systemic racism) come to an end, there will be less of these racist ‘stop the boats’ folks to deal with.

  17. didnt even read half the shit u guys wrote, and i just wrote what I did coz I thought I was entitled to an opinion……….apparently only the people that love everyone are welcome….sorry!!!! (its not like Im the only one that thinks this way!)

    • Boofy can you repeat yourself, as it hard to understand you when you are drunk on one can of beer owed by an overseas company, eating a Kebab brought in from an overseas country and driving to The Shops driving a car owned by another overseas company.

  18. May those that lost their lives rest in peace. May it not deter others that NEED to seek a better life for their families. May Australians realise that by coming to Australia by boat is not illegal and gov’ts should never be allowed to state they will stop the boats but should use the words will veto the UN convention that allows asylum seekers to come here (which they won’t cos the average Aussie has no probs with this). I read comments on a news article saying they should have just blowed the boat up….OMG are we so detached from humanity we see people fleeing from their ruined countries as lemmings on a boat that need to be destroyed. I feel such sadness that some people cannot see another human being for just that.

  19. Kevin should be out getting an Education especially in Spelling and Reality, but all he is doing is wasting taxpayers money by having kids of his own (how?) and claiming Lee is hot (clue spew sound).

  20. dunno what to say people, you’re all confused with reality.. kenneth vaughan your personal attacks on my family are uncalled for, they had nothin to do with what was posted. i see you’re too weak to show your picture on face book and also to weak to allow me to reply to the trash you’ve been sending me!! all i know is this page is just the exact opposite to f*ck off we’re full and everyone is entitled to their opinion. and for everyones information we did feel sorry for the children involved in the boat crash. its never good when children are hurt in anyway, physically and emotionally.

    • Bullshit mate. If you cared about the children perhaps you might have spared a thought for the orphans left behind at the loss of their mothers and fathers.

Fuck right off and watch what you say because we are.

  21. “Less than a week after innocent people lost their lives after fleeing inhumanity and persecution in their home countries….”

By traveling over 7000 kilometres, bypassing at least a dozen other countries, ignoring the much closer option of Europe……

“Never mind the fact how many…..”

Other people lose their lives that we never even hear about.
Who die lost at sea, because our limp-wristed government policy *encourages* such reckless decisions.

“If this shit was happening in Australia, you can be sure that brave, family-minded Australians would be thinking of what was best for their families and looking for any possible way of leaving and heading to…….”

A complete unrelated culture on the other side of the world.
    Not a nearby, related culture.
No, a completely alien one on the other side of the world.

The Australian children of 2185 will “never have known what it’s like to be free, to eat at nice restaurants, to walk their dog in the park, to take their kids to the beach and to go on a roller coaster” because you would have turned this sparkling jewel of a country into a stinking garbage heap.

Let’s sit on antibogan’s blog and bitch, bitch, bitch.

  22. Shonk dribbles:

“The Australian children of 2185 will never have known what it’s like to be free,…blah blah blah”

You won’t be around then thankfully and nor will your dreary nutzi brethren. They and you represent the withered diseased twig on the tree of social evolution.

  23. This post is one of your most horrific. ALL of you who smirk are the saddest excuses for human beings. And the Antibogan is right, how dare you then celebrate Christmas and purport to even understand the message that Christianity (whether you believe in religion or not) TRIES to teach about compassion, respect and loving they neighbour. One day I hope it dawns on you, how lucky you are and how pathetic your hate has been.

  24. theantibogan says: “And while we continue to demonise the people smugglers themselves, at some point we need to acknowledge that these people are helping people flee their countries – something that is somewhat noble.”

    Aw, shucks.
    I does what’s I can.

“Germans who hid fleeing Jews in their houses were people smugglers to a degree – the only difference was that they weren’t financially profiting from human misery.”

    You sure about that?
Jews were often rich. Jewels, furs, gold.
Don’t tell me people just helped them out of the goodness of their hearts, in the middle of the Great Depression.

Ann says: “Why is it any difference that they receive money for what they do?”

    Crime of Passion/Assassination by Hitman
    Making love/Prostitution
    Mystical contemplation/Televangelism (Call now!)

theantibogan says: “You should focus your hatred towards those that come by plane and overstay their Visas.”.”

No, you can’t do that either. That would be ‘waysist’ “Hate speech”.

“I’m sure your employer Repco wouldn’t enjoy knowing that one of its employees gets around posting such public hatred.”

The chocolate ration has increased to 25 grams.

Hello? Is this the manager? Yes, this is the Gestapo. I’m sorry to inform you that one of your staff had to be um, …. relocated.

ohnobogan says: “mmm, now which ‘first boat’ are you referring to?
Could it be the Cook’s Endeavour?, One of the 11 ships of the First Fleet”

    Oh, that’s so clever.
    I’ve never heard that before.
Believe me, if the Aborigines *had* missile launchers, they would have used them.

“Millions of dollars hey? Would that be the same millions of dollars……?”

And are you campaigning to stop any of this ‘waste’? Or just bitching in your basement.

“Oh and Emergency Services risking their lives – this is true”

But the wouldn’t have to for *refugees* if they weren’t coming here in rickety boats and rioting in detention centres.
Our policies encourage dangerous situations that would otherwise not exist.

theantibogan says: “An informed population is harder to frighten.”

Informed about ethnic history = not frightened by “racist” label

“And we all know that fear buys votes.”

    For the Greens.
    Fear of racism.
    Fear of nationalism.
    Fear of Christians.
    Fear of capitalism.
    Fear of climate change.
    Fear of dissent.

“I wish there were an orderly queue that people could join. I wish people could be promptly processed in many locations across Asia and be transported safely to their final destination. [Aw. Tinkerbell grants your wish. Bing!]

The countries they pass through are not signatories to the Refugee Convention [lucky them].

In countries such as Pakistan, Malaysia, and Indonesia all these people can do is live as ‘illegal migrants’ [unlike Australia, where that never happens]

But ‘stopping the boats’ is not the central issue [no?].
We need to focus on why people flee in the first place [yes, let’s solve all the world’s problems. Bing!]
and how they are treated once they do [I just Binged. There’s no need to flee now].

Aside from putting an end to persecution [Bing!], we can only stem the flow of boats with regional cooperation [Bing!].

Our neighbours in South-East Asia and Asia need to sign the Refugee Convention [Bing!]and adhere to its requirements [Bing!].”

Why are you quoting a punch article verbatim, when you were asked for your *own* suggestions?

Andrew Dickinson says: “Throwing the doors open ? On the coastline ? Hmmmm. Mixing your metaphors can be dangerous, new Scott.”

Mixing metaphors would require *two* metaphors.

“we have a terrific Border Protection System. It’s called the ocean.”

    Apparently, it still doesn’t work.

“We don’t share land borders like most other nations”

Which is why refugee and immigration policies relevant and suitable to other countries are not necessarily applicable here.

“All those bucks just to keep a trickle of harmless refos offshore for an indefinite period.”

It wouldn’t have been a trickle if we made *no* effort to control it.

“we could let them land, do standard security and health checks, then release them into the community on a parole-style model while their claims are processed.”

How do you do a ‘standard’ security check on a person with no identification?
How do you find the rejected claimants after you’ve released them into the community?
You will never find them again to deport them.

“Oh, but we don’t want to complains about overstayers, now do we ? They fly in and we’ve checked their passports first.”

We don’t know they’ll be “overstayers” when they *arrive*.
We know vessels are illegally entering our waters *when* they enter.

theantibogan says: “Well over 90% of asylum seekers are deemed legitimate refugees after processing.”

    Which means 10% are LIARS!

Megan says: “I feel such sadness that some people cannot see another human being for just that.”

Except for those braindead bogans, who aren’t human beings at all.

Josh says: “You won’t be around then thankfully and nor will your dreary nutzi brethren. They and you represent the withered diseased twig on the tree of social evolution.”

Unlike refugees in leaky boats, who are the beacon of a glorious future.

Catherine says: “antibogan is right, how dare you then celebrate Christmas and purport to even understand the message that Christianity TRIES to teach [which is “God is a load of shit”] about compassion, respect and loving they neighbour.”

And the people in those boats supposedly believe in karma or surrendering to the will of Allah.
So why are they fighting their Fate?

    • Merry Christmas Shockaholic!

I’ve been a little busy for a while so I haven’t had much of a chance to be around to be persuaded by your arguments.

Upon return – I am happy to see that you have managed to convince everyone here that your perceptions are true and accurate and so your constant and continual rants have proven worthwhile.

Aren’t you glad that you made a difference? Aren’t you happy that you are a positive, beneficial member of society?

You are a practical, sensible person who has contributed immeasurably to the country.

      Thanks!

  25. Shockadelic, what exactly is your point? Your arguments, when posed seriously don’t stack up, and throughout most of your post, you’re belittling without forming a coherent debate. This shows that you are here simply for puerile entertainment purposes. Apparently there is nothing good on tv tonight. Evidently Border Patrol has already screened it’s final episode for the year.

I think the Antibogan has every right to express disgust towards those who think it’s amusing to joke about people dying because the system for processing refugees is fraught with inadequacies, and they are forced to flee horrific conditions only to encounter yet more. It IS disgusting.

  26. Uhm, without reading the drivel in all the comments about humanity, love and peace etc, my issue is why these people think it’s worth the journey to Australia? Soft target perhaps? No doubt once they get settled at our expense, we’ll hear about how beautiful Iraq is, how it’s the cradle of civilisation, and how one day there will be peace there. Unfortunately it’ll be no thanks to the cowards who deserted their own country when it needed them most.

    • Thanks for dropping by, Mr Rotten, people seek asylum because they are within inches of receiving hot lead. If they left Iraq I don’t think they’d be praising its beauties anytime soon.

  27. Looks like you are an expert in this field, you got some great points there, but you’ll want to add a facebook button to your blog. I just bookmarked this article, although I had to complete it manually. Simply my $.02 🙂
