Far right targets Muslims with hate campaign

Australia’s violent far right has begun to stir again, targeting Muslims in a campaign that has erupted into conflict with Islamic radicals involving at least one shooting, death threats and intimidation.

The worst of the anti-Muslim drive is led by the Australian Defence League, joining a small but widening base embracing the Australia First Party, a registered political party that contests local, state and federal elections, white supremacists, neo-Nazis and skinheads.

A newly formed Australian branch of Greece’s fascist Golden Dawn has been supported by Australia First. Golden Dawn has a history of violence, uses Nazi symbolism and regards Adolf Hitler as a “great personality”.

Australia’s far right has drawn heavily on foreign mentors. The ADL grew from Britain’s violently anti-Muslim English Defence League, with others linked to an international network of fascists and white supremacists.

The domestic spy agency, the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, said in its most recent report to federal Parliament that local groups were using protests to provoke violence, leading to “heightened tensions between anti-Islam groups and Islamist extremists”.

Asio and police are now investigating rising tensions between the ADL and Muslim groups after an internet and social media hate campaign, death threats and intimidation including public abuse of Muslims.

ADL members in Sydney have photographed Muslim women in city streets and on public transport, posting the images and accompanying abusive comments on the internet. This has been supported by anti-Islamic harangues and pamphlets in shopping malls.

Islamic schools have also been targeted. Anti-terror agencies were alarmed by a video of Malek Fahd school in the western Sydney suburb of Greenacre, posted on Facebook and YouTube. The video claimed Malek Fahd, Australia’s largest Islamic school, was a centre for terrorism and should be destroyed.

The defence force has also investigated reports that the ADL has recruited within the military. The navy said none of its sailors were ADL members, but that several had been dismissed for inappropriate use of social media.

Footage of navy ships has been used in videos made by heavy metal band Eureka Brigade formed by ADL member Shermon Burgess, whose lyrics proclaimed the riot between white Australians and Lebanese youths at Cronulla in 2005 “Australia’s Muslim holocaust”.

Eureka Brigade’s inflammatory songs Border Patrol (supporting operations against asylum seekers) and ADL Killing Machine are posted on the internet.

Police investigations are continuing. Former ADL western Sydney president Nathan Abela has been charged with offences including using a carriage service to menace, harass or offend.

Muslim radicals are striking back. They are believed responsible for firing eight gunshots into Abela’s home. The previous day a Muslim calling himself Abu Bakr posted a YouTube video warning Abela he was a “clear target” and that if he did not accept Islam he “will die by the sword”.

The ADL is among the latest of a long line of far right Australian extremists that reached a high in the 1930s with the New Guard, a militia of anti-communists and imperialists with a reputed peak membership of 50,000.

Since then there have been intermittent far right risings, reaching a new peak in the 1980s with violence led by the neo-Nazi National Resistance and Australian National Alliance. Others have included the League of Rights and militias such as the Aussie Scouts, based in far western New South Wales.

Most have been small and flared only briefly, often disintegrating through internal warfare. Asio noted: “There has been a persistent but small subculture of racist and nationalist extremists in Australia, forming groups, fragmenting, re-forming and often fighting among themselves.”

Numbers remain tiny, with nationwide estimates running into the low hundreds. The ADL won a large Facebook following, but is believed to have as few as 30 paid members.

Neo-Nazi, white supremacists and “Aussie pride” organisations also include Southern Cross Hammerskins, Blood & Honour, Volksfront and Combat 18, most derived from and linked to US, British and European groups. America’s notorious Ku Klux Klan also has a small Australian following.

ADL regards Islam and Sharia law as a threat to Australian democracy, advocating a global stand against a religious, political and social ideology seeking to “dominate all non-believers and impose a harsh legal system that rejects democratic accountability and human rights”.

Australia First says Australia is a client state. “The unfolding population/food crisis coupled with new world order wars launches refugee hordes at Australia’s borders, whilst the traitor class sponsors a mass immigration recolonisation of Australia for the purposes of economic enmeshment with the global economy,” its website says.

On white supremacist forum Stormfront, bonehead Chris Smith has announced the reformation of Volksfront, the neo-Nazi skinhead originally gang formed in the US in 1994, and established in Australia about a decade later. The development is curious as Volksfront in the US announced its dissolution just over a year ago, in circumstances which remain somewhat obscure, but may be connected to the mass murder by neo-Nazi skinhead Wade Michael Page in August, and increased attention from the US government. Rose City Antifa:

believe that the announced dissolution of Volksfront should be treated with some caution: Volksfront has auto-dissolved once before, in 1998, when members of Volksfront in Portland including Krager were under increased police scrutiny and decided to take apart Volksfront as an above-ground organization. Volksfront then publicly resurfaced in 2001 after three years underground. Randal Krager also made a December 2004 announcement that he had given up leadership of the organization, but was soon enough back as the head of Volksfront. The latest Volksfront announcement may therefore mainly be made out of political convenience. It is possible that key Volksfront activists will continue to work as an underground network, as there is precedent for this in the organization’s history.

Note that prior to this point, VF has operated only in NSW, and a gentleman’s agreement has existed between it and the boneheads belonging to the Southern Cross Hammerskins, restricting VF’s activities to that state. Presumably, the two gangs have arrived at a new understanding. (Smith runs the Anti-Antifa Australia blog and distributes neo-Nazi propaganda via the Heathen Noise website.) Otherwise, VF has worked in close cooperation with Welf Herfurth’s ‘national anarchist’/ New Right groupuscule in Sydney, and these ties would appear to remain fairly strong.

Did Aboriginals Deserve an Apology? – “This is not a racist page”

Kevin Rudd apologised as Prime Minister at the time on behalf of the government and people of Australia. Whether he was around during the period of the Stolen Generations or not is irrelevant.

Indigenous reactions to the Apology were positive. Indigenous people were not concerned whether Rudd had been “around” or not,  just that he was there as Prime Minister representing the government and the nation.

Oh and we know of no Indigenous people, alive or dead, who were or are “grateful” for being snatched away from their families. The anonymous admin of that page must live in another universe!

We are fairly sure that the real owner of that picture, State of Michigan political analyst Marlon Brown, who is an African-American albino, would not be too impressed by knowing that a white supremacist was misusing his photograph.

What you’re about to read may be somewhat humorous and light-hearted, but at the root of it all are matters of the utmost grave seriousness. For a long time now, anti-racists have been attacked for expressing their freedom of speech – the freedom to oppose discrimination. Activists and their families have been threatened, property has been damaged, dead animals have been left in letterboxes and defamation has occurred at the hands of people behind fake profiles.

For a long time, we have argued the difference between what we do at our website, and what detractors do is in their response. When a person posts a racist comment on a publicly accessible webpage, we see no issue with re-posting it. After all, that person had no issues of attaching their name and photo to their hateful comments in a public forum in the first place, so it seems unusual that they would ever want us to remove our reference to them. But the next part is less clear to the haters:

Not one single antibogan author has ever attached a name to what is said here, and that’s not because what you see here is illegal. It is because discriminators have a history of taking the fight beyond the discussion grounds – to the anti-discriminator’s family, workplace and friends. Not one single antibogan author has ever attached their workplace to what is said here, and that’s not because there is anything here that would bring any company into disrepute. In fact, the overwhelming percentage of workplaces in Australia have anti-discrimination policies in place, and nearly always oppose racism. We don’t state our workplaces because they don’t deserve to be contacted and harrassed by psychotic neo-nazi white supremacists who take issue with race and culture equality being the norm in our country. Finally, at no point in time has a mirrored TAB website been opened, showcasing the discriminatory comments of those who come and visit here. That’s because people who oppose discrimination simply aren’t stupid enough to make potentially career-ending comments in a public forum. And THAT is the difference.

The evidence below will show that defamation has indeed occurred, at the hands of people who never believed they would be found out. The focus of this post is on the defamation of this website’s alleged creator – a school teacher with a history of activism in anti-discrimination.

If you’re an investigator, a journalist, a local member, a police officer or an interested party, the names you need to remember, the names of the people behind the hate pages and the names of the people who will be answerable are as follows:

There are many more who have acted alongside these lowlifes, including Darryl Rock aka Shockadelic, Chris Merrett, Marina Chapman and Dave Allen to name just a few.

It’s Academy Award time again and we have a perfect plot for a film noir – depending on whether you prefer film noir or grindhouse that is.

So let’s unveil the plot.

Two bearded unprepossessing bums meet up with a glamorous vamp. Since neither vaudeville villain has the brains to find their own arses without considerable help, she persuades them to run an extortion racket online, targeting anti-racists by bullying and intimidation. They do this by a series of fake profiles armed with pictures stolen from people’s Facebook pages.

Every dark melodrama queen needs to have an underlying motive. It could be revenge for love gone wrong, some imagined or real disadvantage, an imagined or real slight or nothing in particular at all. In fact watching the film noir bad girls of old as played by Bette Davis or Joan Crawford, today’s well-informed movie buff usually concludes quite correctly that the women they played were psychologically unhinged.

The  “theme” or “rationale”  if you can use such a word, is that racists and bigots have the right to spew their hatred on a public forum without any consequences for their action and that when action is taken then they are entitled to use illicit means to take revenge. The fact that vilification of minorities is illegal seems to have escaped this particular bunny boiler and her clown car conspirators because it is all about a profound sense of entitlement.

And where did the title come from? Well that should be obvious, though we have heard suggestion it should have been titled The Tripolar Hoop Snake – but unlike the grindhouse cult film of the same name no coercion is involved in the creation of this bottom-feeder – none whatsoever. The gleesome threesome happily hook up in a row for emotional chow time.

Stars love publicity, so let’s first take a peek at these stars in their brief mini-biographies.

SANDRA MITCHELL ROGIC

Sandy as she is popularly known lives in a coastal area of south-eastern Queensland where vicious predatory sharks are sometimes sighted. They are also sighted in the water.

Sandy loves walks on the beach, communicating with her fellow performers on Facebook and all things Serbian. Why Serbian? Whatever floats your boat Sandy…

Personally we love Novak Djokovic, detest Slobodan Milosevic.

 PAUL TOOHEY

Paul Toohey, journeyman wall and floor tiler who apparently enjoys the ambience of the Newcastle area when not in featured parts in cinematic vehicles,  known to the police, is the old fart elder statesman of the Pathetic Party and close friend to failed Fascist ideologue Darrin Hodges and failed political candidate future Prime Minister Nicholas Folkes. Last seen in the film  The Alamo where he reprises the John Wayne role in an action adventure set at Villawood Detention Centre. That film premiered on Sunday and shows the veteran fighter trying to hold back millions of asylum seekers  while valiantly standing his ground against armed-to-the-teeth militant terrorists a score or so of amused uni students.

Paul has undergone a rejuvenation in the last couple of years thanks to some snazzy barbering and a natty line in T shirts. Does this have anything to do with his alleged visits to a dating site?

Paul clearly enjoys his stint as “John Harris” and has also explored other roles, especially playing the roles of what he and Rogic imagine the anti-racists are like. This has involved among other things pretending to be a Muslim woman, obviously with one of his obsessions passionate interests in mind.

For we have heard that Paul is of somewhat a religious bent and has lately taken a keen interest in Hunter Valley houses of worship, both old and new. We expect to be able to look at his new interest in more detail soon.

SCOTT NEALE

Scott Neale , also from the arse end of Queensland, also well acquainted with the constabulary, likes the simple life and frequently moves from place to place. Scott was heavily featured in fellow Queenslander Darren Morris-Bailey’s last film APDM Streetfighter but seems to have cut ties with the martial arts star and launched a newer, more literary direction in his work. As “John Harris” Scott Neale brings his own unique variety of boofhead idiocy quiet strength to this role.

Now all good movies  need a series of trailers to titillate the audience. Sit back and relax as we run you through these entertainment gems from the theatrical release.

Here you can see the Centipede’s keen interest in Indigenous Australians unfold – an important plot device for later in this production. You also get to see some of the supporting players in this ensemble cast showcased such as former Eastern European erotic star Michelle Johnson in a cameo role.

Think of this as an intimate  moment between Paul and Scott. Some film critics have already compared their on-screen chemistry to that between the  protagonists in Brokeback Mountain.

We are not sure who is occupying the John Harris suit in this intimate exchange he/they is/are having with their dominatrix, where they seem to be obsessed with a man dressed in a bear suit for a school fete. Truly a Fellini moment. Or something.

Another appearance from the man in the bear suit. Does it symbolise something akin to the bear in Hotel New Hampshire? Or more likely is it the consequence of the John Harris duo having visited another kind of hotel? We believe the lads both enjoy that immensely.

Alongside alcohol, the driving force seems to be menthol cigarettes. It certainly is for Debbie O’ Donnell, The Centipede’s resident fake lesbian. Is this some sort of code? Or is it supposed to indicate eroticism? What happens if “John Harris” has a headache? Do they butt out?

A guest appearance from Shockadelic, everyone’s favourite boulevardier, the Noel Coward of Chippendale, touching base with Porn Queen and adding some chain-store psychology to the mix. Told you when we talk about this being a psychological thriller that the psychological refers to the florid neuro-processes of the main protagonists.

We think they were discussing the sexuality of the bear. Furries were not exactly an area which was explored in great detail in the classic films noir of old. But if the John Harris trio boys want a bit of plush porno then who are we to stop them? It certainly gets them heated up – CAPITAL LETTERS and all.

Here’s a segment showing the template for one of their gay fake profiles. We were surprised “John Harris” knew so much about what gay people are supposed to like. Then again perhaps we weren’t surprised.

In a rare burst of heterosexual interest the fellas then decided to put up a picture of a woman who happened to be Muslim. The sheer weight of lewd interest in this cleverly executed scene shows the strain it places on the mental resources of Ma Harris’s boys as they struggle to spell difficult English words like “liar” and “yes”. But such a poignant moment of vulnerability.

Meanwhile, in a cunning bit of product placement, the admin of this group decided to post up a disclaimer. You could almost call this a The Usual Suspects moment.

And now, if you can stomach it, feel free to peruse the collected evidence of the attempts to paint a school teacher anti-discrimination activist as a gay, transsexual paedophile psychopath. The journey begins with the lowest of acts – ‘John Harris’ creating a fake profile of the teacher and adding all of the students from his school and communicating with them both publicly and privately in an incredibly inappropriate, grooming kinda way.

Peter Lord’s “crime”? Being involved in the Celebrating Diversity Coalition and Campaign Against Racism, an anti-racism group. Lord of course, like many other normal Australians, would have assumed that being a public activist for a more tolerant and just society was a perfectly legitimate and praiseworthy activity. After all, the notion of a tolerant and just society is continually being pushed by politicians from the major parties, is a mandatory perspective in schools both public and private and is even upheld by the churches. However our knuckle-dragging “white nationalists” (note they never call themselves Nazis or neo-Nazis, but this is what they are) thought differently.

After a failed anti-asylum seeker rally in 2009 outside the Villawood Detention Centre by the Australian Protectionist Party (who prefer to call themselves “nationalists”, who are sort of the beige shirts of the neo-Nazis “white nationalists”), a blogger published photographs of and commentary on the demonstration and of the far larger counter-demonstration mounted by about 300 people from various progressive and refugee advocacy groups. The blogger was subjected to a campaign of vilification, threats and hate which extended from Facebook even into the Comments section of the Sydney Indymedia site, not a place you would think the far right would feel particularly welcome.

In 2010 an activist in the Newtown area came to the notice of certain elements calling themselves “white nationalists” (or in the case of the more squeamish, just beige “nationalists”). In return for his public activism he was subjected to a finger-pointing campaign on a nasty little “anti-antifa” website (now thankfully removed) run by various veterans of Volksfront, a disparate rag-tag group of the socially challenged.

Recently, another outspoken anti-racist, a productive and valuable member of his community, has had his home and family targeted. Among other abuses, his daughter was phoned in the middle of the night and abused by the caller, and dead animals have been sent to him through the mail.

Why was he targeted? It seems he exercised his right to “free speech” on Facebook to robustly criticise hate groups and their members. But wait, these neo-Nazis “white nationalists” won’t stand for that. In their alternate universe “free speech” is only to be used loudly and inaccurately to convey hate speech.

And in most cases it seems these morons don’t even need a particular reason. For example, the bile isn’t confined to non-whites, Muslims, Jews or immigrants. Slandering and threatening women and gays is also a neo-Nazi “white nationalist” speciality.

The list of crimes members of these neo-Nazi movements are responsible for include murder, the attempted assassination of a prominent member of the African National Congress living in exile in Australia, vandalism of synagogues, mosques and cemeteries, a fire-bomb attack on a Chinese restaurant in Fremantle, attacks on the homes and property of activists, death threats of various sorts and the continued vilification and harassment of of minorities. In addition many of them, to put it politely, are “known to police” and offences include domestic violence and assaults up to and including grievous bodily harm.

Stacks up fairly well against the Underbelly mob in the hoodlum stakes.

These “movements” have one thing in common – they will stalk their targets and use threats, intimidation and extortion to silence their victims.

If you are unclear as to what this means, take a look at the relevant legislation. If you do not live in NSW, be aware that other states have strikingly similar laws.

While you are at it, take a look at Section 249K of the Crimes Act (NSW) which talks about extortion.

The inspiration for the title of this piece actually came from Josana’s blog where she outlines the vicious campaign against the activist mentioned in the Extortion entry.

Josana manages to expose a whole colourful procession of bottom-feeders, all associated to a greater or lesser degree with these neo-Nazis self-styled “white nationalists”. Our next entry is going to have a closer look at some of these characters.

And with the events in Norway in mind, it is perhaps appropriate to read of the price paid by Swedish writer and activist Stieg Larsson and his family in his own tolerant, liberal, prosperous country .

From Lessons from Stieg Larsson

As Expo grew, the neo-Nazis in Sweden targeted it,… both of them were placed on hit lists, and were in enough danger to barricade their apartment doors and arrange for special police protection. “Stieg would receive bullets in the mail, and once someone was waiting for him outside the entrance of the TT building [where he worked]. Warned in time, Stieg slipped out a back door,” Gabrielsson writes.

“Our answering machine was set permanently on ‘record’ to keep evidence of the threats we received,” she continues, “and they were always in the same vein: ‘Piece of shit, you Jew-fucker…Traitor, we’ll tear you apart…and we know where you live.'” At the sign of the slightest provocation on their apartment block police cars would descend on the street. The danger was undeniably real: Two journalists who once worked for Expo and were later employed by Aftonbladet, one of Sweden’s largest newspapers, wrote an expose of the neo-Nazi black metal music operations. One of them was seriously injured when his car was bombed. A labor union leader who revealed neo-Nazi names was shot dead.

These events, and what Larsson felt was the government’s failure to protect citizens, made their way into Larsson’s fiction, says Gabrielsson, for example via the murders of Dag Svensson and Mia Bergman in The Girl Who Played With Fire. “In fact, everything of this nature described in The Millennium Trilogy has happened at one time or another to a Swedish citizen, journalist, politician, public prosecutor, unionist, or policeman. Nothing was made up.”
