Feigned Love

The Australian Independent Media Network

Tony Abbott has declared fixing Australia’s greatest “national failure”, dire indigenous disadvantage, will be one of his personal priorities if he wins office.

Personally, I think it’s all talk. It’s just a display of feigned love.

This is just talk from the man who, when Indigenous people traveled for three days to get to Canberra to put their case to a Parliamentary committee, walked in late, didn’t apologise, sat down and then fell asleep.

This from the man who said ‘There may not be a great job for them but whatever there is, they just have to do it, and if it’s picking up rubbish around the community, it just has to be done’

This from the man who, at the Australia Day celebrations this year, said “The first lot of Australians were chosen by the finest judges in England, not always for good reasons, and from…

Sam de Brito

All Men are Liars

Sam de Brito takes the pulse of Aussie manhood.

Lovin’ those no shared borders.

After the Adam Goodes/Eddie McGuire fiasco kicked off last month, I heard the return of one of my favourite White Person Excuses: “I didn’t kill any Aborigines or take their land, what’s it got to do with me?”

It’s kinda sweet Aussies have retained this live-and-let-live attitude because it’s one that’d see you in a teensy bit of trouble in thousands of different parts of the world.

As of this moment, Australia and the good ole’ bustling Arctic are the only two places where there’s not some kind of ongoing territorial dispute between a national or sub-national entity.

The majority of these disputes are non-violent but most of them are also old; older than tall ships, muskets and keeping Indigenous Australians in pet collars.

It seems to be a universal human trait – when someone steals your land and kills your relatives, you remember it for a long, long time.

The Middle East and Balkans are handy reminders of the elephantine memories people have for atrocities committed against their forebears.

History is not linear in many cultures: the repression of the Hazara people – who often end up on Australian naval vessels as refugees from Afghanistan – dates back to them sharing too much blood with the Mongols, who killed everybody they could get their hands on in Afghanistan and Persia 800 years ago.

Of course, in places like Syria, Sudan, Mali, Pakistan, Iraq and Egypt, things are even more heated and what you did or did not do makes as little difference as what your great-grandparents did or did not do.

There are vicious square-ups happening in those countries right at this moment dating back hundreds of years and in others (thanks to the Shiite/Sunni divide) over a thousand.

So, whenever I hear “what’s it got to do with me?”, I suggest we’re kind of a special case here in Australia because …

1. We’ve no shared borders with expansionist neighbours with whom we have long-standing bad blood and …

2. We reduced the Indigenous population to a numerical minority that struggles to insist we rethink history from their point of view.

Of course, the other side of the “what’s it’s got to do with me”? coin is our shared human heritage.

You might just as well ask “what does electricity have to do with me?” as you open your fridge. Or agriculture? Or aspirin? Or numbers and letters?

Every newborn inherits an immense body of knowledge, delivered via a struggle that’s dragged humanity up the ladder from supernatural to legendary and now scientific explanations of the world and, frankly, that’s also got nothing to do with you.

You didn’t invent democracy, currency, navigation, hygiene, law and order or shower heads – but you benefit from them every day.

It’s simple humility to respect the debt we owe billions of great minds, soldiers and civilians for where we are now in history.

It’s also common decency to recognise that with the good, we also should accept responsibility for the bad.

When that comes to Indigenous Australians, a humble acknowledgement of past injustices is a nice place to start.

Race hate site on Facebook attracts 4500 ‘likes’

Facebook race hate page against Africans gets 4500 “likes” Picture: Facebook

A FACEBOOK site which vilifies the African community in a western Sydney suburb has been liked by more than 4500 people.

Called “Had a dream I was in Africa, woke up, still in Blacktown” the page features racist comments about Sudanese and Indigenous people.

It has been used to advertise a meeting of the far right wing Australia First Party, to “end the refugee invasion of Australia”.

The page’s main picture shows Blacktown Railway Station, where a number of the local Sudanese population are on staff, with the caption: “all the black people live in Blacktown, hence the name. Lots of lols provided”.

The page appears to have inspired spin-off sites, including a site entitled “Had a dream, i had sheet on my head, woke up still a Muslim”.

Posts include “the africans are everywhere you look” and claims about Sudanese people being unemployed.

NSW Community Relations Commission CEO, Stepan Kerkyasharian, said he was aware of the page, but “unfortunately I can do nothing about it”.

“The difficulty with internet issues of race discrimination is jurisdiction,” he said.

“It depends on whose server the material is sitting on, and Facebook does not recognise the jurisdiction of the Anti-Discrimination Board.

“Unless there has been a criminal act that would bring in the police, we are unable to stop this form of race attack.”

The Reverend Michael Robinson, whose Blacktown Anglican Church has a significant Sudanese membership and a Sudanese co-pastor, said he counselled members of his congregation when they came under attack.

“I say to them there are people in Australia who do not like foreigners and you stand out because of your skin colour,” the Rev Robinson said.

“I tell them to stand tall and proud, because they are Australians too.”

The Rev Robinson said the Sudanese families at his church had come from a country rife with conflict and civil war and had settled well into Australia, where they had found work and a place in the community.

“They’ve all got jobs, in fact many have two jobs and they manage to fit in together despite the fact they come from different backgrounds.

“We have twelve different Sudanese tribes represented in our congregation and they manage to work together harmoniously.

“It’s a shame some Australians can’t manage to do the same.”

Harmful Drinking Culture?

The general discourse when it comes to our Indigenous Australians is that they’re all heavy drinkers and petrol sniffers. Obviously, 223 years ago there wasn’t a drunken, drugged up Aboriginal in Australia. European settlers (whose primary currency was rum) arrived here and introduced these vices to our native Australians.

Are only Aboriginals are drinking themselves into harm?

Many Australian health surveys have shown that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are less likely than non-Indigenous Australians to consume alcohol:

Drinking sociology and why Aboriginal people drink:
Aboriginal people often drink in groups but not to socialise. Rather, a group of drinkers ensures that there is always someone who can provide money for the next purchase of drinks.
The problem of drinking is aggravated by the fact that the various pensions and allowances by the government are paid on different days. Even if a drinker spent all pension money his financial ‘drought’ would be broken with the next government payment. Paydays have always been the heaviest drinking days.
Against all odds, some young Aboriginal children decide to stay abstinent particularly when they want pursue a career in sport.
Aboriginal history tells us why Aboriginal people start to drink. Over the past two centuries they have been exposed to dramatic changes in their lives, and even now they have to struggle for the very basic human rights.
Indigenous alcohol abuse is motivated by the breakdown of traditional social control mechanisms, a lack of means for establishing and ritually enacting (through ceremonies) group identity, a lack of traditional rules for alcohol consumption behaviours (as existed before invasion), the culturally infused sharing ethos (Aboriginal people share resources most of the times), resistance to imposed controls on Aboriginal society, a lack of processes for reducing tensions and frustrations occurring as a result of

  • poverty
  • unemployment
  • discrimination
  • racism
  • boredom
  • dislocation.

Aboriginal men in particular suffer from the loss of their cultural status in the transition from a traditional to a welfare-based lifestyle. Many Aboriginal women, through their status as mothers, receive more welfare payments than Aboriginal men.

“You know how you destroy a culture? …You make sure that kids are born with alcohol foetal syndrome, they won’t be able to pass on the dreamtime and the culture.”

‘Brough weighs in on WA’, NIT 13/11/2008 p.9

(Alcohol consumption in percent by age group for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Australia.)

Across all age groups less Aboriginal people consume alcohol in the low risk group. Only in three age groups is the number of Aboriginal people significantly higher.

“I turn away my own siblings if they arrive intoxicated. Some would say this is a rejection of my family. I say it’s a strengthening and educating of my family. I will not put my family and our plans and dreams at risk.”

‘A call to action’, Koori Mail 458 p.6

“One common stereotype of Indigenous Australians is that they all drink alcohol to excess. But the reality is that a smaller percentage of Aborigines drink alcohol than do other Australians.

‘Aboriginal Australia & the Torres Strait Islands’, Lonely Planet, 2001, p.124

At least half of all assaults in Sydney in 2007 were related to alcohol, prompting the City of Sydney to introduce a 2am lock-out for some hot-spots.
In 2007 there were 21,000 alcohol-related assaults across the state [of NSW].

‘City News’ in: Wentworth Courier, 26/11/2008 p.19

‘Blood, regrets and beers: just a typical Saturday’, Wentworth Courier 3/12/2008 pp.6-7

While Aboriginal people generally drink less than non-Indigenous people, those who do so are more likely to drink at hazardous levels. Unfortunately, many reports focus on these results rather than the fact that generally they drink less.

Most persons stressed that not all Aboriginals had alcohol problems – many didn’t drink at all, or drank only very lightly, but the problem was that many of those who did drink did so very heavily.

National Drug Strategy Household Survey, 1994

At St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, you can see the “ugly side of Sydney’s binge drinking epidemic” [12]. Within 24 hours, the medical team had to attend to 65 people under 30, 90% of which had to be treated for alcohol-related injuries. Nationwide four Australians under 25 die due to alcohol-related injuries in an average week.

‘Blood, regrets and beers: just a typical Saturday’, Wentworth Courier 3/12/2008 pp.6-7

http://www.australia.gov.au/drinkingnightmare 2/1/2009

Fewer Aboriginal people drink daily or at least once a week than non-Indigenous people do. Many more Aboriginal people consume alcohol once a month or even less frequently. This is in stark contrast to the image the media tries to reinforce when reporting about “staggering quantities of alcohol” being consumed.

Sensationalist journalism:

This image published in the Time Magazine suggests that Aboriginal people drink heavily. The caption reads: “Staggering quantities of alcohol are consumed in drinking sessions in the bush around Borroloola.” But literature and surveys suggest only a minority engage in such binge drinking.

The article calls Aboriginal drinking in this remote outback town a “drinking epidemic”, claiming that “most Top End towns” share this fate and Borroloola is “just another community in the queue” for support plans from the NT government. The author mentions two examples of serious bodily harm inflicted by drunk Aboriginal people and claims that “such incidents are as common in the Top End as the crunch of green aluminium cans underfoot”.

This article was part of the magazine’s “Australian Journeys” special which was to “capture the spirit of the longest road in the South Pacific”, the Highway No. 1. I strongly dispute that this is the true ‘spirit’ of this remote community.

In his book Land is Life, published in 1999, Richard Baker tells the story of the Yanyuwa people most of whom now live in or near Borroloola, located 970 kms south-east of Darwin. Baker finds an altogether different situation:

The Aboriginal drinking problem in town [Borroloola] is highly visible while the large number of people living on ‘dry’ outstations is invisible. As a result, tourists tend to end up having negative stereotypes of Aboriginal culture reinforced.

It looks like the reporters of Time Magazine didn’t make the effort to visit one of the outstations (or ‘homelands’) where Aboriginal people control aspects of their life and put up ‘no grog allowed’ signs on the approach roads. This control over alcohol is denied to them in the town of Borroloola:

It should be stressed how different Borroloola is from nearby ‘closed’ Aboriginal communities in Arnhem Land. For example, the Yanyuwa would like to control the sale of alcohol to Aboriginal people in Borroloola but are unable to do so.

One theory claims that the conspicuous litter of beer cans and wine cartons is an expression of resistance towards white management of Aboriginal lives.

If we consider just the statistics for the remote and sparsely populated Northern Territory, around 25% of Indigenous people consume alcohol which is lower than the figure for all of Australia.

Strategies Aboriginal people use to avoid alcohol abuse are

  • the declaration of ‘Dry Zones’ within Indigenous communities,
  • prohibition and restriction in shops and supermarkets,
  • community policing and licensing,
  • replacing alcohol with Kava, an alternative drink from the Pacific Islands, used particularly in the Northern Territory where it was introduced into Arnhem Land during the 1980s. Made from the crushed root of a pepper plant mixed with water, Kava can cause several damaging health conditions.

‘Police swoop on kava bound for remote centre’, Koori Mail 444 p.51

It has to be kept in mind however, that such projects are in danger of failing until the causes of excessive drinking have been removed.

Facebook fails the tolerance test

According to the film, The Social Network, Mark Zuckerberg conceived and founded Facebook largely as a result of being rejected by his girlfriend at the time.

So perhaps we must ask ourselves whether Facebook is merely a gigantic pervasive adolescent frat-boy fantasy theme park based on the need for acceptance and the need for the socially anxious to hang with the cool people and become awesome (and score women of course)

Adolescents are in the process of becoming adults. As part of that process they exhibit a number of characteristics, many of which are irritating to the real adults in their lives.

  • unrealistic expectations
  • pre-occupation with self – everyone is like me
  • preoccupation with image
  • overwhelming desire for acceptance
  • black and white thinking
  • impulsivity

However in the real world, in order to survive, adolescents need to grow up.

Unrealistic expectations

We are told that Facebook has a physical workforce at its US headquarters of around 4000 people. This is supposed to ensure the smooth running of an organisation which has a customer base estimated at one billion

Ingham’s Chickens Victorian factory employs about 3000.

Except Facebook deals with all the complexities and pitfalls of human interactions online.

Inghams deals with dead chickens.

Facebook deals with customer complaints, privacy concerns, online security and hate speech (?)

In a lame attempt to stretch its Californian workforce more thinly, Facebook has outsourced much of its moderation and response to reports to an offshore entity called oDesk Part of this process is the running of bots which supposedly identify offensive content and sends alleged offenders automated messages.

oDesk moderator on the job

Some four billion pieces of content are shared every day by 845 million users. And while most are harmless, it has recently come to light that the site is brimming with paedophilia, pornography, racism and violence – all moderated by outsourced, poorly vetted workers in third world countries paid just $1 an hour. (Daily Telegraph UK)

However this kind of “moderation” is full of pitfalls and is open to abuse as pointed out by activist Segway Jeremy Ryan who got his account compromised while campaigning against the Governor of Wisconsin’s planned budget cuts.

Trolls are now having activists removed by filing fake Facebook complaints. That is right, people are suppressing information in Wisconsin by actively reporting people they deem to be a threat on Facebook. I myself have been reported and banned for one to three days for simply posting “Good job” or “The majority of Wisconsin doesn’t like Scott Walker.” People have been reported on pages for saying nothing more than my name and have been reprimanded by Facebook. The strategy is simple and Facebook lets it continue. If someone reports something as abusive to Facebook they don’t actually look at it, they just remove it and warn the person who posted it. If you get enough you are not able to dispute them at all, and with no admin contacts and no one at Facebook actually looking at the posts reported as “abusive,” the person gets blocked.

Pre-occupation with self – everyone is like me

Mark Zuckerberg, it is said, wants the world to be an open place where everyone is transparent (except for the Facebook business model but that’s another story) So much so it seems that Facebook managed to upset no less a person than acclaimed Nobel Prize-winning British author Salman Rushdie.

Pre-occupation with image

Well at least where women’s breasts are concerned – specifically the breasts of nursing mothers.

So while racists, bigoted, anti-woman Facebook hate sites abound, if you dare show a picture of a happy nursing mum and her baby you are likely to get a bot warning from oDesk.

Or as one wit put it “Jew-haters are welcome on Facebook as long as they are not lactating”.

Your warning would look like this:

And if you are really really lucky you might get one of these, complete with either space tags or misplaced end tags, just to underline and emphasise its innate stupidity.

The Gold Medal for Facebook Stupidity is an e mail like this one below. And again note the tags.

The item in question was actually this. We remember it well, it was posted at TAB Facebook page and mass reported despite being neither obscene nor featuring real people.

Then again the racists didn’t like it…

Apparently Zuckerberg and the kiddies came up with this  “solution” for the problem of undesirable content on Facebook.

socialresolution1

Well hey we could really see how that one would work…

socialresolution2

Err Mark, which planet are you on again?

socialresolution3

Sorry Mark, from our point of view most anti-discrimination activists are way past the age of having teachers and some of us don’t even have parents. It might work if our “trusted friend” was this err…person.

The “trusted friend” we’d like to have

Desire for acceptance

Facebook goes out of its way to be accepted as THE universal social network platform. Its whole business bottom line is based on that premise. The more fools click on the ads and sign up for the data miners, the more money Facebook makes.

In doing so it hosts a variety of fringe wackos who’d be hard pressed writing their own names in the real world.

On Facebook, you do not need the rudimentary web skills you require to run a message board for instance. So that’s why racists, bigots and other semi-literate hate mongers have flocked there in droves rather than gathering at other longer-established hate sites like Scumfront or Winds of Jihad, where they can mix exclusively with others of their kind.

And this is why.

Not only does Facebook give them a laughably easy platform to use, it also lets them share a space with the mainstream. It is rather analogous to the local crack dealer setting up a store on the village green, rather than hiding away in a dark alley.

Hello kiddies. Welcome to Freakbook. We want you to make us very happy…(League of Gentlemen)

So when the kids get onto Facebook to interact with their real-life friends, there’s a whole bunch of Fuck Off We’re Full-type sites just waiting to groom them and entice them in. Something which did not escape this critic from an atheist site.

As far as Facebook pages and groups go, we use the living-room test at TAB for sites. Would you allow the people on site XYZ into your living room? If the answer is NO then we shouldn’t have to endure their intrusion into our space. In real life we do not choose to, nor do we have to associate with, racists, bigots and the like. And we can ensure our kids are kept away from haters.

Of course Zuckerberg apologises. In fact he does so often. Perhaps a little too often for someone who is trying to float a public company. Maybe that’s why savvy share buyers have stayed away in droves – that and everything else we have outlined.

In fact Better Business Bureau gave Facebook an “F” rating with the following comment

Our opinion of what this rating means:
We strongly question the company’s reliability for reasons such as that they have failed to respond to complaints, their advertising is grossly misleading, they are not in compliance with the law’s licensing or registration requirements, their complaints contain especially serious allegations, or the company’s industry is known for its fraudulent business practices.

Impulsivity

One day Zuckerberg must have awoken with a brilliant thought bubble. Why not allow users themselves to police the Facebook site? That way he wouldn’t be forking out hundreds of thousands to pay a bunch of nerds to moderate content.

This sounds nice and cosy at first, not to mention cheap as chips, until you take a look at the calibre of some of the Facebook users. You don’t have to go very far to do that.

Just check out the names on our very own tag cloud.

From Wikipedia:

Enabling of Harassment

Facebook instituted a policy by which it is now self-policed by the community of Facebook users. Some users have complained that this policy allows Facebook to empower abusive users to harass them by allowing them to submit reports on even benign comments and photos as being “offensive” or “in violation of Facebook Rights and Responsibilities” and that enough of these reports result in the user who is being harassed in this way getting their account blocked for a predetermined number of days or weeks, or even deactivated entirely…In addition, Facebook does not ban the IPs of users who have proven to create multiple accounts for the purposes of trolling or stalking others, thereby enabling the harasser, even if they do have one of the offending accounts deactivated, to simply create another one and continue the harassment with no lasting consequences

Take a look at what happened recently to one of our sister sites, a group which exposes racism directed at Indigenous Australians.

complaintagainstracists

So the ABC’s 7:30 programme recently decided to check out these claims.

And it gets better. After being criticised by our own AFP’s cyber crime unit Facebook responded thus:

Facebook is a service devoted to helping people share and making the world more open and connected.

As such, we often must balance the need for freedom of expression and the even greater need of preventing any harm to the people who use our service.

To achieve this balance, when we write our policies, we must exclude offensiveness when determining which pages are harmful.

So it seems thanks to Facebook we now have a new definition of “offensiveness”. “Offensiveness” according to Facebook are violations of areas which most of the civilised world has long decided are no-go areas.

Facebook regards the following as mere “offensiveness” it seems – racism, religious bigotry, particularly directed at Muslims and Jews ( including Holocaust denial and Protocol-style vilifying myths about Muslims),  but also at Indigenous Australians, misogyny, homophobia, bullying, intimidation, defamation, identity theft and the propagation of violent political ideologies such as neo-Nazism.

And speaking of names, this is what Facebook’s apologist Simon Axten thinks of activists who wish to conceal their identities.

And when asked to respond to a request for assistance from no less an agency than the WA Human Rights Commission, this was his glib reply.

facebooksimonaxten1a

In Australia for anti-racists and other social justice activists, having to reveal your identity can mean harassment, intimidation and violence from your enemies. In many other countries it can mean imprisonment, torture and death. But this obviously doesn’t bother Simon.

So let’s see if the new head of Facebook’s Australia-New Zealand operations can do a better job. Here’s his CV.

And his photo. Watch for him in the better Sydney eateries.

Here’s William Easton. No doubt the identity thieves at Facebook will be grabbing this.

Unlike what is demanded of Facebook members, William is a tad shy about revealing his contact details so that we can send our complaints to him. So we might help him out with a Facebook-style fatwa he can use. It’s a lot more honest than the one Facebook is using at the moment.

Aboriginal Australians: they’re not all alike

Café Whispers

When this blog first started, as well as posting political and media related topics, we also posted many informative topics on Indigenous Australia. It is a topic that is close to most of us here and we have always endeavoured to the best of our ability to promote an awareness of our Indigenous brothers and sisters in the country they settled 60,000 years before Europeans.

This post was first published in June 2010 when we had just a handful of contributors and readers so I would like to re-introduce it now that we have gathered a large number of both along the way. It is a post that challenges the pan-Aboriginalisation opinions of the Indigenous Australians by the wider community, which is, simply; ‘they’re all alike’.

On balance I do not think it is valid to refer to Aboriginal characteristics in a general way, especially when those characteristics are based…

Carl Dy Donnelly, expert on Aboriginality

Meet Carl Dy Donnelly. Supposedly based in Dudley in the Midlands of the UK, a member of that aimless rabble the EDL, but suddenly an expert on our Indigenous Australians.

Here is Carl who, like that other expert Andrew Bolt, thinks he can define Indigenous identity according to what he thinks it is. In Carl’s case from 17000 kilometres away using only Facebook and his own dick.

Carl Dy Donnelly

Take a look at how the United Nations defines indigenous identity:

Indigenous communities, peoples and nations are those which, having a historical continuity with pre-invasion and pre-colonial societies that developed on their territories, consider themselves distinct from other sectors of the societies now prevailing on those territories, or parts of them. They form at present non-dominant sectors of society and are determined to preserve, develop and transmit to future generations their ancestral territories, and their ethnic identity, as the basis of their continued existence as peoples, in accordance with their own cultural patterns, social institutions and legal system…On an individual basis, an indigenous person is one who belongs to these indigenous populations through self-identification as indigenous (group consciousness) and is recognised and accepted by these populations as one of its members (acceptance by the group).

This preserves for these communities the sovereign right and power to decide who belongs to them, without external interference.

– THE CONCEPT OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES
Background paper prepared
by the Secretariat of the Permanent Forum
on Indigenous Issues

Sounds fair enough to us.

And living in the Black Country doesn’t make Carl an expert on how our Indigenous people define themselves even if by some peculiar EDL mind snap he thinks it does.

The Human Centipede – “John Harris” Exposed

What you’re about to read may be somewhat humorous and light-hearted, but at the root of it all are matters of the utmost grave seriousness. For a long time now, anti-racists have been attacked for expressing their freedom of speech – the freedom to oppose discrimination. Activists and their families have been threatened, property has been damaged, dead animals have been left in letterboxes and defamation has occurred at the hands of people behind fake profiles.

For a long time, we have argued the difference between what we do at our website, and what detractors do is in their response. When a person posts a racist comment on a publicly accessible webpage, we see no issue with re-posting it. After all, that person had no issues of attaching their name and photo to their hateful comments in a public forum in the first place, so it seems unusual that they would ever want us to remove our reference to them. But the next part is less clear to the haters:

Not one single antibogan author has ever attached a name to what is said here, and that’s not because what you see here is illegal. It is because discriminators have a history of taking the fight beyond the discussion grounds – to the anti-discriminator’s family, workplace and friends. Not one single antibogan author has ever attached their workplace to what is said here, and that’s not because there is anything here that would bring any company into disrepute. In fact, the overwhelming percentage of workplaces in Australia have anti-discrimination policies in place, and nearly always oppose racism. We don’t state our workplaces because they don’t deserve to be contacted and harrassed by psychotic neo-nazi white supremacists who take issue with race and culture equality being the norm in our country. Finally, at no point in time has a mirrored TAB website been opened, showcasing the discriminatory comments of those who come and visit here. That’s because people who oppose discrimination simply aren’t stupid enough to make potentially career-ending comments in a public forum. And THAT is the difference.

The evidence below will show that defamation has indeed occurred, at the hands of people who never believed they would be found out. The focus of this post is on the defamation of this website’s alleged creator – a school teacher with a history of activism in anti-discrimination.

If you’re an investigator, a journalist, a local member, a police officer or an interested party, the names you need to remember, the names of the people behind the hate pages and the names of the people who will be answerable are as follows:

Sandra Rogic aka Sandy Mitchell, Paul Toohey aka Alan Toohey, Scott Neale (APDM infamy) and Trilby Steinberger.

There are many more who have acted alongside these lowlifes, including Darryl Rock aka Shockadelic, Chris Merrett, Marina Chapman and Dave Allen to name just a few.

And now, on with the show…

*****************************************************

It’s Academy Award time again and we have a perfect plot for a film noir – depending on whether you prefer film noir or grindhouse that is.

So let’s unveil the plot.

Two bearded unprepossessing bums meet up with a glamorous vamp. Since neither vaudeville villain has the brains to find their own arses without considerable help, she persuades them to run an extortion racket online, targeting anti-racists by bullying and intimidation. They do this by a series of fake profiles armed with pictures stolen from people’s Facebook pages.

Movie Poster

Every dark melodrama queen needs to have an underlying motive. It could be revenge for love gone wrong, some imagined or real disadvantage, an imagined or real slight or nothing in particular at all. In fact watching the film noir bad girls of old as played by Bette Davis or Joan Crawford, today’s well-informed movie buff usually concludes quite correctly that the women they played were psychologically unhinged.

The  “theme” or “rationale”  if you can use such a word, is that racists and bigots have the right to spew their hatred on a public forum without any consequences for their action and that when action is taken then they are entitled to use illicit means to take revenge. The fact that vilification of minorities is illegal seems to have escaped this particular bunny boiler and her clown car conspirators because it is all about a profound sense of entitlement.

And where did the title come from? Well that should be obvious, though we have heard suggestion it should have been titled The Tripolar Hoop Snake – but unlike the grindhouse cult film of the same name no coercion is involved in the creation of this bottom-feeder – none whatsoever. The gleesome threesome happily hook up in a row for emotional chow time.

Stars love publicity, so let’s first take a peek at these stars in their brief mini-biographies.

 PAUL TOOHEY

Paul TooheyPaul Toohey, journeyman wall and floor tiler who apparently enjoys the ambience of the Newcastle area when not in featured parts in cinematic vehicles,  known to the police, is the old fart elder statesman of the Pathetic Party and close friend to failed Fascist ideologue Darrin Hodges and failed political candidate future Prime Minister Nicholas Folkes. Last seen in the film  The Alamo where he reprises the John Wayne role in an action adventure set at Villawood Detention Centre. That film premiered on Sunday and shows the veteran fighter trying to hold back millions of asylum seekers  while valiantly standing his ground against armed-to-the-teeth militant terrorists a score or so of amused uni students.

Paul has undergone a rejuvenation in the last couple of years thanks to some snazzy barbering and a natty line in T shirts. Does this have anything to do with his alleged visits to a dating site?

Paul clearly enjoys his stint as “John Harris” and has also explored other roles, especially playing the roles of what he and Rogic imagine the anti-racists are like. This has involved among other things pretending to be a Muslim woman, obviously with one of his obsessions passionate interests in mind.

For we have heard that Paul is of somewhat a religious bent and has lately taken a keen interest in Hunter Valley houses of worship, both old and new. We expect to be able to look at his new interest in more detail soon.

SCOTT NEALE

Scott NealeScott Neale , also from the arse end of Queensland, also well acquainted with the constabulary, likes the simple life and frequently moves from place to place. Scott was heavily featured in fellow Queenslander Darren Morris-Bailey’s last film APDM Streetfighter but seems to have cut ties with the martial arts star and launched a newer, more literary direction in his work. As “John Harris” Scott Neale brings his own unique variety of boofhead idiocy quiet strength to this role.

Now all good movies  need a series of trailers to titillate the audience. Sit back and relax as we run you through these entertainment gems from the theatrical release.

Debbie and John Harris

Here you can see the Centipede’s keen interest in Indigenous Australians unfold – an important plot device for later in this production. You also get to see some of the supporting players in this ensemble cast showcased such as former Eastern European erotic star Michelle Johnson in a cameo role.

Intimate moment

Think of this as an intimate  moment between Paul and Scott. Some film critics have already compared their on-screen chemistry to that between the  protagonists in Brokeback Mountain.

Fuck TAB group

Intimate moment

Harris & Rogic

We are not sure who is occupying the John Harris suit in this intimate exchange he/they is/are having with their dominatrix, where they seem to be obsessed with a man dressed in a bear suit for a school fete. Truly a Fellini moment. Or something.

Our Revenge group

Another appearance from the man in the bear suit. Does it symbolise something akin to the bear in Hotel New Hampshire? Or more likely is it the consequence of the John Harris duo having visited another kind of hotel? We believe the lads both enjoy that immensely.

Sandy the fake lesbian

Alongside alcohol, the driving force seems to be menthol cigarettes. It certainly is for Debbie O’ Donnell, The Centipede’s resident fake lesbian. Is this some sort of code? Or is it supposed to indicate eroticism? What happens if “John Harris” has a headache? Do they butt out?

Distortions with Michelle and Shonk

A guest appearance from Shockadelic, everyone’s favourite boulevardier, the Noel Coward of Chippendale, touching base with Porn Queen and adding some chain-store psychology to the mix. Told you when we talk about this being a psychological thriller that the psychological refers to the florid neuro-processes of the main protagonists.

Nutzis working together

We think they were discussing the sexuality of the bear. Furries were not exactly an area which was explored in great detail in the classic films noir of old. But if the John Harris trio boys want a bit of plush porno then who are we to stop them? It certainly gets them heated up – CAPITAL LETTERS and all.

Spoof page1

Here’s a segment showing the template for one of their gay fake profiles. We were surprised “John Harris” knew so much about what gay people are supposed to like. Then again perhaps we weren’t surprised.

Harris the picture stealer

In a rare burst of heterosexual interest the fellas then decided to put up a picture of a woman who happened to be Muslim. The sheer weight of lewd interest in this cleverly executed scene shows the strain it places on the mental resources of Ma Harris’s boys as they struggle to spell difficult English words like “liar” and “yes”. But such a poignant moment of vulnerability.

Meanwhile, in a cunning bit of product placement, the admin of this group decided to post up a disclaimer. You could almost call this a The Usual Suspects moment.

Denial from Trilby

And now, if you can stomach it, feel free to peruse the collected evidence of the attempts to paint a school teacher anti-discrimination activist as a gay, transsexual paedophile psychopath. The journey begins with the lowest of acts – ‘John Harris’ creating a fake profile of the teacher and adding all of the students from his school and communicating with them both publicly and privately in an incredibly inappropriate, grooming kinda way.
