Capt Shindy versus the Fascists: extreme, ill-informed fringe group menaces pioneering naval officer

You may recall we recently republished a Daily Telegraph article on the groundbreaking work of RAN Captain Mona Shindy in her role as Chief of Navy’s Strategic Adviser on Islamic Cultural Affairs.

However this is but one of Capt. Shindy’s many achievements after 26 years of service in the ADF. Last year she was named as 2015 Telstra NSW Businesswoman of the Year. She was on active service during the 2003 Iraq War. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree and is Head of the Guided Missile Frigate System Program Office. In the 2015 Australia Day Honours she was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross.

Conspicuous Service Cross

The CSC is awarded only for outstanding devotion to duty, or outstanding achievement in the application of exceptional skills, judgment or dedication, in non-warlike situations.

So it was with a good deal of concern that we read this report in today’s Guardian dealing with the sudden removal of the Navy’s Islamic Twitter account (@navyislamic).

mona5

And how and why was the Twitter account removed?

“The head of the ALA (Australian Liberty Alliance), Debbie Robinson, who has previously described Islam as “a dangerous ideology” incompatible with Western society, wrote to the chief of the Australian defence force, Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin, on 10 December asking the navy to distance itself from the account or delete it.

“It is completely unacceptable for an official defence Twitter account to criticise any registered political party in Australia,” Robinson said in a press release.”

We have a number of posts detailing anti-Muslim extremist Debbie Robinson’s work.

We also went through them and through the MSM carefully trying to find an achievement – any achievement – to mention.

All we could find in the MSM was that she was married to an orthopaedic surgeon, a notion we find quaintly Mad Men in its 1950s aspirational tone.

And hubby is a tad shy about his political leanings but it seems he too does have some association with Fascist foreigner Geert Wilders’s latest offshore embryonic party branch (see Perth Now)

We’d like to think that newly minted Defence Minister Marise Payne may not have been informed of this preremptory response. In case she was not you can contact her via the links  here

Stop the Penrith mosque sez the nutzis? Too late losers.

Back in September last year the Online Hate Prevention Institute was successful in getting this particular hate page removed.

You can read more about this unlamented hate group here

Despite supposedly being removed, this page has returned to an apparently oblivious Facebook in the form of a Facebook event designed to attract bigots, phobes and other peculiarities to the latest fashion in hate targets – Muslims.

TABPenrithmosque4

Note how the event creator who goes by the name of Tyler Winchester (or Mark Winchester – obviously cannot decide which) has co-opted a newspaper photograph for a Timeline pic showing hostages from the recent tragic Martin Place siege. Real classy these nutzi extremists.

And it’s not often you see a bunch of Nazis nutzis (or neo-Nazis – no significant difference, all stupid) getting together with “concerned citizens” (i.e. the ones who’d be saying “I’m not racist/bigoted but…”) for a xenophobic love-in. The nutzis as always are desperately seek some sort of normalisation and legitimacy: the CCs are too dumb to realise this.

Now the nutzis like to show their chests to girls… or each other. At least their self-proclaimed leader (too embarrassed to show his face) does.

Even though these aren’t his six-packs.

TABPenrithmosque2

And they aren’t even white men!

OH NOES! NON-WHITES!!

Let’s journey back to the beginning of this saga of bigotry, to a bunch of flyers distributed around the Penrith area and the role of one Councillor Marcus Cornish.

Cornish, a Liberal Party member, stood for Penrith Council in 2012 as an independent when the Libs decided not to endorse candidates. Heath Aston has more here in the SMH including Cornish’s friendship with disendorsed anti-Muslim Liberal candidate David Barker.

TABPenrithmosque

This is how the Daily Telegraph saw it on 28th October

On the 4th November the Tele revisited the story and noted that Cornish now had an ally, one Councillor Maurice Girotto. Girotto, it may be noted, is a former member of Australia First.

Ultimately Penrith Council approved the proposed community centre with some restrictions related to noise, hours of opening and traffic, despite a handful of noisy bigots turning up to protest and five letters mainly relating to noise and traffic.

“Anonymous” has an outline on slackbastard’s blog

And good work Penrith Council standing up to bullies, batshit crazies and bigots.

Rita Panahi, You Have A Serious Problem.

ramio1983

Rita Panahi, a pop-up journalist that magically appeared in the news scene recently made an article titled “Islam, you have a very serious problem“. Her facebook name is “Miss Judgement” and indeed she is an opinionated woman and proud. Yet as the famous saying goes and pardon my French here- “Opinions are like arse holes- everybody has one“.

Our Friend “Miss Judgement” claims herself to be a writer for the Daily Telegraph. Yes, the Rupert Murdoch run newspaper who’s CEO recently claimed that all Muslims should be responsible for the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris, whether they were peaceful or not. That’d be as ridiculous as me claiming Rita Panahi is responsible and must apologize for her CEO’s ridiculous tweets including the fact that during the Sydney Siege Attack, instead of praying for the victims and wishing them safety and security he boasted about how The…

Job criteria at Courier Mail: “must be a dog whistling racist willing to pose as a journalist”

This morning’s Daily Telegraph and Courier Mail (Murdoch’s flaccid Sydney and Brisbane organs) featured the following beat-up from one of Rupert’s resident right wing ratbags, Tim Blair.

TABcouriermail1

The quote in the title comes from an irate commenter and neatly summarises the depths to which the gutter press will go to when they are trying to get an outcome for its owner. Strictly speaking, Islam is a religion not an ethnicity but Islamophobia has the same roots as does anti-Semitism and the language and iconography are the same. So is the underlying racism which fuels the bigotry.

Spot the Difference

Why most people would normally be interested in a piece about an obscure Sydney suburb that states the bleeding obvious as in “Muslims live in this suburb” is hard to fathom until you factor in the following:

  1. This churnalism acts as clickbait for the bogots with lots of juxtaposed lurid pics and pokey buzzwords to get them into a frothing frenzy about the “Muslim threat to ‘Strayan culture’ “.
  2. Lakemba has a large Muslim population (51.8% according to the last census) so it makes for a focus of fear and loathing for Islamophobes, preferred suckers for News Corpse nonsense.
  3. The state seat of Lakemba (safe Labor) will lose its sitting member, Robert Furolo, who is retiring at the next state election. Labor is holding a pre-selection for his replacement and two of the candidates are Muslim.

We look forward to the following headlines from Tim Blair

Catholics take over historic building!

Jewish businesses set up in Bondi!

 Hillsong invades New York!

SDA products take over supermarket!

But it won’t happen will it…

Meanwhile here’s some sample tweets reacting to the bilge.

Woman charged over Bondi train racist rant

A woman filmed allegedly racially abusing and threatening passengers on a Bondi-bound train while nursing a child has been tracked down by police and charged.

Rebecca Blessington, 28, has been charged with using offensive language after video emerged of a woman in a racist tirade against Asian passengers.

The footage, which was filmed by another passenger at 8.30am on Tuesday April 8, allegedly shows the Merrylands West woman racially taunt fellow passengers while bouncing the child on her knee.

At one stage she gets to her feet and stands over a woman saying “I’ll hurt you” and “don’t underestimate me” while carrying the child in her arms.

“Youse (sic) aren’t citizens. You come in here and take our country ya —–. You know it too. And guess what mate — there’s a war comin’. A war between us and youse (sic),” she says.

The video was filmed during the morning peak hour between Town Hall and Bondi Junction.

During the tirade, the woman claims to be of Aboriginal descent and calls the women “scum”.

“You know the ones that were here first? The black fellas, the Kooris, which I am. This is our country mate.”

Officers visited Blessington’s home this morning and she is set to appear at Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney on May 9, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

CA slams ‘bigotry’ against Ahmed

Cricket Australia boss James Sutherland has condemned ”bigoted” comments about Australian spinner Fawad Ahmed, after former rugby union international David Campese said he should ”go home” if he didn’t want to wear a beer sponsor’s logo on his playing shirt.

Campese was commenting on a story that appeared in Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, in which former Test batsman Doug Walters was quoted as saying: ”I think if he doesn’t want to wear the team gear, he should not be part of the team. Maybe if he doesn’t want to be paid that’s OK”. Campese tweeted: ”Doug Walters tells Pakistan-born Fawad Ahmed: if you don’t like the VB uniform, don’t play for Australia Well said doug. Tell him to go home.”

Ahmed was granted refugee protection in Australia on the basis that Taliban commanders in his homeland threatened on multiple occasions to kill him for coaching local children and promoting education free from religious extremism for women and girls.

He was granted permanent residency in Australia last November and in July became an Australian citizen.

Sutherland said the comments were ”out of order” and a poor reflection on Australian society. ”Fawad is an Australian cricketer, he is as entitled as anyone to represent his country. He was made a citizen in July, he has a passport, he has chosen Australia as his home for very good reasons. The Australian cricket community has welcomed him and we’re very proud to have him,” he said, adding that he had been dismayed at the ”opportunism on some people’s parts to reflect bigoted views”.

”He is a cricketer who has religious beliefs and he is an Australian. Irrespective of cultural background or religious beliefs, if you are Australian you are eligible to play cricket for Australia and if you’re good at cricket we want you in our team.”

CA is determined cricket will become a more diverse sport, as Asia becomes the biggest source of migration. Sutherland also revealed it was CA that approached Ahmed about the alcohol advertising, not the other way around, and said there was no suggestion – either from within cricket or the sponsor that he should pay a penalty for declining to display the logo. ”We were the ones that raised it with Fawad to ensure he was comfortable, knowing his religious background and where alcohol fits in with that.”

Campese claimed he didn’t care about Ahmed’s religion but objected to his beliefs impinging on the sporting arena. He said: ”well why did he come to Aussie in the first place. A better life? Now he is telling people what he wants.!

”They is a lot more kids who would love to play for Australia. And they would t complain.” ”we were supported by XXXX and I was not a beer drinker. So Doug is right go back to where you come from”.
