Scott, you seem to be a very active commentator on this website, so now you’ve got your own dedicated post. You can contribute as much as you like, as your presence shines light on the isolation of your views, views that are shared by few. For the sake of this post, we have divided human beings into two categories – whites and non-whites. You have done this for us already, so let’s run with that.
Australia is less than 230 years old. You’re often comparing the success and cohesion of a multicultural society (as we have now) to the success and cohesion of a white Australia seen pre 1920’s. Not only were you not alive during this period, but you’re not bothering to make the comparisons with standard of living, economic prosperity, happiness index, crime levels, health and hygiene, equal rights, technological advancement or culture between pre 1850s and post 1950s. For the sake of this post, we are looking at Australia. While we have similarities with other Western nations such as Britain and the United States, there are many reasons as to why they are incomparable in context.
You cannot compare a modern 2010 Australia with a highly multicultural population (as we have now) with a modern 2010 Australia that is purely white, as you are only assuming that you know what that would be like. You are comparing a known situation with an invented situation. And your assumptions that a purely white country would be better than what we have now are based on your opinion that white people are superior. Such a position is flawed, as white people, like all people, are rapists, drunks, pedophiles, tax evaders, criminals and violent abusers. White people, like all people, have the capacity to (and have historically proven for hundreds and thousands of years) that they care not for their fellow man, nor for their family, nor for their country, nor for their religion, nor for their place of employment, nor for their children, nor for themselves.
You may assume that this writer speaks for all white people, such is your perspective of what theantibogan represents. But we know that white people, like all people, also have the capacity to love, care for, worship, cherish, respect, help and be charitable to people they want nothing in return from. As do non-white people.
Your desire to maintain the sovereignty and culture of Australia intact by ethnically cleansing our country and then halting immigration completely is absurd, as it assumes that only white people have contributed to the entity that is Australian society and culture, and that we are somehow losing touch with our European heritage because every non-white person that enters our country has no knowledge or respect for it. You will not be able to provide any evidence of how our ties with Britain have been severed. Our Australian anthem still stands. We remain a monarchy, ruled by the Queen. We continue to share our flag with the flag of another country. We continue to use a Westminster system of democracy. Our laws haven’t changed in any way that would contradict the notion of ‘sovereignty’. We continue to live in a free society. We continue to be allied with Britain and The United States.
You keep saying that you speak for the majority of Australians, yet the handful of political parties that have promised a halt in immigration have failed miserably at the hands of democracy. There is definitely such thing as multi racial integration, but what it does is evolve what it means to be Australian. Rather than focusing on a person’s skin colour or country of ancestry as you are suggesting, we now attribute being Australian to character and behaviour. If you were an Australian 300 years ago, you had black skin. If you were an Australian 200 years ago, you were British, and most probably a criminal or the descendant of a criminal. If you were an Australian 100 years ago, you were the descendant of a migrant, and you were separated comfortably or harshly by class. If you are an Australian today, you are a person who values the fair go, cheers for the underdog, disapproves of the tall poppy, works hard, enjoys relaxing with friends and family, has Australian residency, pays Australian taxes, contributes to Australian economy, works in the Australian workforce, adheres to Australian law, realises the physical differences between men and women but understands the equality in human rights, isn’t scared of sharing an elevator with a foreigner and has an interest in sport, music and/or art. We may disagree here, but defining a person’s worth or association with something beyond their control, such as their skin colour, is completely ludicrous, especially considering that many abuse their association.
Australia is definitely an example of a functioning multicultural society. You may question random examples of criminal behaviour displayed by non-whites, but you will be refuted with evidence of criminal behaviour at the hands of whites. You may question the inability for non-whites to integrate into society, but you will be refuted with evidence of whites refusing to allow non-whites the right to even be here. You may identify anti-Australian sentiment from minorities who feel oppressed by Australians, but you will be refuted with examples of pro-Australian sentiment from all kinds of migrant backgrounds.
Racial division comes from both sides, but so does racial tolerance and celebration. You will never in this lifetime, or in any time in the future, see a white Australia. So you can choose to be a white who stands for racial acceptance and celebration, recognising the contributions that non-whites have made to our culture, our way of life, our economy, our workforce, our communities, our charities, our international reputation and our identity, or you can choose to be a white who stands for division and hatred of non-whites, desperately clinging to a period of history that you were not even a part of.
You can choose to focus on the examples of where non-whites have failed to live as a positive member of Australian society, or you can choose to focus on the examples where they have succeeded.
